Diplomatic/Service Visa is for those visiting Indonesia to conduct government business, diplomatic posting, or special assignments in Indonesia.

The holders of diplomatic/service passport of certain countries, including Australia, who are travelling to Indonesia for government business up to 30 days may not be required to obtain visa (see free visa for short visit)


This visa allows you to conduct scientific research in Indonesia.

Before applying for visa at the Embassy, applicant must first submit application for research permit to the State Ministry of Research and Technology. Please visit the Ministry’s website https://frp.ristekdikti.go.id the procedure and requirements to obtain foreign research permit.

Once research permit is granted, applicant will receive an authorization letter issued by the Directorate General of Immigration. Within two months after the issuance of the letter, you should submit visa application to the nominated Indonesian Mission (Embassy/Consulate).

Please note that the Embassy will not issue a visa without the authorization letter from the Immigration. Applicants are suggested not to submit visa application to the Embassy if the research permit has not been received.


This visa is for those visiting Indonesia:

  • to conduct journalist work (interviews, news coverage etc)

  • to be stationed as a foreign correspondent for a period of time

  • for making film/movies
