1. The Work and Holiday Visa is designed to create opportunities for young people to engage in social and cultural exchange between Indonesia and Australia. The visa is now available for 1000 Australians and 1000 Indonesians. 
  2. The visa is mainly for tourist purposes, which also allows the holders to do some work and study. Visa must not be used to work for more than six months or to study more than four months. Working as a language teacher is only permitted in formal education institution, or other higher education.
  3. To be eligible for this visa:
  • applicants must be between 18-30 years old (on the date of complete application received)
  • not in possession of another Indonesian visa
  • have not previously taken part in the work and holiday program
  • and have no dependent or children who will be joining the visit


  1. Complete and signed application form.
  2. Passport with a minimum validity of 18 months.
  3. Evidence of tertiary qualifications, or successful completion of at least two years of undergraduate university study.
  4. Evidence that you have good Indonesian (functional Indonesian language skills).
  5. Recommendation letter from Department of Home Affairs.
  6. Medical certificate from doctor.
  7. Evidence of sufficient funds to cover living expenses during the period of initial stay in Indonesia (minimum A$ 5,000).
  8. Visa fee is TBA for application and $21 for the approval letter, per 1 July 2019. Payment can be made by EFPTOS or credit card at the Indonesian Embassy. For application by mail, payment must be made by Money Order payable to “the Indonesian Embassy”. Cash or cheque will not be accepted.
  9. Application by mail must enclose a self-addressed return envelope (preferably by Platinum Post or courier services). It is the responsibility of the applicants to retain the tracking numbers of the return envelope. The Embassy is not liable for the delays or loss of any documents sent by mail. Please note that we do not provide information on delivery status, and recommend you check the status with the Australia Post.


  1. The process will take min 4 (four) weeks after all requirements are deemed complete and approved by the Indonesian Authority in Jakarta.
  2. Applicants can lodge application at all Indonesian Missions in Australia (Indonesian Embassy in Canberra, Indonesian Consulate General in Sydney, Indonesian Consulate General in Melbourne, Indonesian Consulate General in Perth, Indonesian Consulate in Darwin). Please visit their websites for further information.
  3. Right after entering Indonesia, the visa holder shall pay in local currency IDR 1.000.000,- for the limited stay permit (ITAS), IDR 700.000,- for the multiple exit permit (MREP) and IDR 50.000,- for biometric photograph at the arrival airport in Indonesia. 1 A$ is around 10.000 IDR.
  4. Holders of Work and Holiday Visa can only enter Indonesia through 6 (six) designated Airports in Indonesia, namely:
  • Soekarno-Hatta, Jakarta; 
  • Ngurah Rai, Bali;
  • AdiSucipto, Yogyakarta;
  • Tritunas Semesta, Batam;
  • Polonia, Medan; and
  • Sam Ratulangi, Manado 

    5. Please be informed that the immigration office at the airport has the authority to decide whether a person is allowed to enter Indonesia
